The Challenge

Our partner agency’s client, a large corporate department, faced significant hurdles in managing critical knowledge resources.

Key challenges included fragmented knowledge silos, where vital information was scattered and difficult for employees to locate quickly. The existing platform suffered from outdated system limitations, lacking the flexibility, usability, and modern features essential for effective knowledge management in a large enterprise.

The overarching objective was to develop a modern, centralized, and highly intuitive internal knowledge base on WordPress, featuring a flexible content structure, powerful search, and enhanced knowledge discovery.

Our Role & Expert Execution

As Lead Senior Full-Stack Developer & Technical Architect, seamlessly integrated within the agency’s project team, our primary responsibility was the core backend architecture and frontend infrastructure supporting the content experience.

This involved spearheading the design and development of a bespoke WordPress theme and backend architecture specifically tailored for a dynamic knowledge base. A critical aspect was leading the development of a comprehensive suite of custom Gutenberg blocks, which provided an intuitive and flexible editing experience for non-technical users.

To ensure logical organization and efficient categorization, we implemented custom post types and advanced taxonomy structures. Throughout the project, we collaborated effectively with the agency’s managers and strategists, translating functional requirements and user needs into a robust technical implementation.

We developed a user-centric, flexible, and powerful knowledge base solution within the WordPress framework.

The core of this was a Gutenberg-powered content experience, achieved by building a custom WordPress theme around a comprehensive library of custom Gutenberg blocks. These blocks were specifically designed for intuitive creation and structuring of knowledge content by non-technical users. To ensure information was easily found, we implemented structured and navigable content through custom post types and advanced taxonomy systems, significantly improving organization and discoverability.

Powerful search capabilities were integrated and customized to provide fast, accurate results across the entire knowledge base. We also focused on creating a streamlined backend editing experience, making it exceptionally intuitive for the client’s internal subject matter experts and drastically simplifying content maintenance. Throughout development, quality and reliability were paramount, ensuring the codebase was clean, maintainable, performant, and suitable for an enterprise internal system.
